So recently I've been rather lacking with this blog but I've finally decided it needs updating, and I need to back fill some posts from key dates. After starting to work for Radio Aire this month I have to say I'm enjoying it so far and hoping to get many more shifts next month. Tomorrow is a shift I'm not looking forward to, 10 hours trying to get people to enter a competition for another company, though I have to look on the bright side that I'm finally earning money from something radio related and in the future there should be opportunities in the station.
In addition to my job I'm being kept busy with job applications which I've got back into doing (left it a few weeks when I started this job) as I need something full time at some point in the future. I've also started contacting radio stations and audio production companies asking about internships or work experience, so I have a better chance of getting a job. So if you know of any radio internships or work experience PLEASE contact me

Taking inspiration
This week I'm going to talk about something different but first radio, a slower week where I've been to a meeting and helped clear out the d:one studios. It's never looked so clean and tidy.
Last week I read Beccy Huxtable's blog and was moved by what I read. I've been a fan of Beccy for a while from listening to Scott Mills on BBC Radio 1; finding her funny, down to earth and as I want to work in radio she's also someone I aspire to be like. Last year I was saddened by Beccy leaving the Scott Mills show, knowing it was for health reasons but not understanding. When I read her blog I gained a better understanding of why she left, plus she moved me because I felt I could become a successful radio producer whilst having health problems (plus she still has a great sense of humour).
The reason I came to writing this post is from reading the article Sarah Millican wrote about her time at the BAFTAs. To be honest I saw her tweet about it a few days ago and added it to my to do list, then someone put a link on Facebook and something made me read it, I'm so glad I did. Sarah talks about how she was happy with what she was wearing at the BAFTAs till people on twitter said awful things.
Well I've had experiences like this too. Exhausted from the end of uni I pulled myself together for an awards event, and I looked pretty good to say I felt a mess inside. I had a genuinely nice time till someone made a comment about me not smiling in photos, well it may not be a big cheesey grin but that's how I smile. I walked away and enjoyed the rest of my night. There's been other occasions like this though, like when someone asked if I was pregnant on holiday when actually I was having a bad time with my stomach condition or when IBS was brought up at uni and someone said it was a condition old people have. The times when it hurts most are when it comes from someone close, like a friend saying I'm not pretty or a family member pointing out how awful my face looks or my stomach.
This week I started going to spin classes, and when I mentioned this to a friend he asked was I only doing this because of what other people thought? I tried to convince him and myself that it was to improve my health and confidence, but it was partly due to people perceptions of me. I hate that I feel judged on how I look and empathise with Sarah Millican, who btw I think looked lovely at the BAFTAs and she looked happy so who cares.
I suffer from acne, chronic migraines and IBS. I don't want sympathy and I feel better about myself than I have for ages. I'm working hard to get a career in radio and how I look should not effect this, my experience and knowledge are more important.

18th April
Last weeks post was dedicated to SRACon so now I'm going to fill you in on the rest of the week and what's happened since.
I had my final show on d:one on Thursday 10th April, which was an interesting experience. Tired from SRACon I planned my show the best I could then tried to get a good nights sleep, the next morning I missed the first bus due to tiredness which was alright as there was the second. Alas the bus was very late so I started my show 30 mins late. From this I had to cut down what I had planned and make the most of my last show. It went well and I was rather sad to finish it.
That evening was my last session at Theatre Society for me, which is important because I have made some brilliant friends and had great experiences here.
On Friday 11th April was the end of year party in the student union bar which d:one broadcasted from. I only managed to be there for the last few hours due to other commitments but could tell everyone had a lovely time, and it was a great end to the year.
This week my other half visited for 4 days and I've been doing uni work, so not as eventful.

SRA Training Day - Derby
This week has been rather busy, starting off with a meeting with Jet Productions which is a video company in Derby that do some interesting work. I have been set up with this company as part of the university's Employee Mentoring Scheme, this is a great opportunity to learn about video production and they've said I can help on one of their productions.
I also had a CV workshop and first aid training session as part of my Futures Award, which means I'm nearer to completing this as well as learning some interesting stuff. I've been to d:one marketing & production team meetings which were good, plus took some equipment out so we can plan what we are doing for the UDSU elections.
Thursday saw me doing two radio shows and theatre society, then today I've got a careers appointment to sort out my CV and a few other bits. It's been a rather crazy week so I've decided to take myself home for a long weekend to chill out.

BBC Birmingham
On Monday I went to an event at BBC Birmingham with Ryan from d:one, this was a great opportunity to learn about the BBC graduate schemes. I am thinking about applying for the Production Trainee Scheme and Production Talent Pool because they are great ways of getting into the BBC. The application process seems to be complex and quite competitive but I think I'll give it a go as it'd be fantastic.
The rest of the week was pretty straight forward, but I have started the new The d:one Film Review Show which will be Thursdays at 5pm. This is a great opportunity to get a different sort of show on d:one and build a relationship with the Quad, as they are providing the film tickets. I did have some brilliant news about going on placement at the start of March.

January 31st
This week at d:one has been back to normal, but my weeks been mad with rehearsals for UDSU Theatre Society's Robinhood. The d:one schedule is filling up and everything has gone well this week. The news team did interviews at an dyslexia event, which was so good we put it online here. My show was much improved with planning in more detail than I usually do.

January 24th
The first week of d:one broadcasting in 2014, and it was rather busy. Issues with server payment meant we almost didn't manage to get back on air, but it was resolved by Callum in time. Then on Thursday we had the Give it a Go day, where anyone could have a go on d:one. We had 3 people try it out, and I had brilliant fun presenting with Gemma Pask. Even though we didn't get as many people as I had hoped we raised our profile, and many d:one members came down to help & we had a fun time.
